Very interesting end of season Premier League stats for two Newcastle United players.
A newly updated table (see below) on Wednesday shows the Premier League players who have been most successful when it comes to dribbling.
These statistics cover the entire 2020/21 Premier League season, data collected from all 38 rounds of matches.
A table has been published by ‘The Other 14’ (who specialise on stats/tables etc on the 14 clubs who aren’t the ‘Big Six’) which shows Premier League players who have been most successful when it comes to dribbling:
Not surprisingly, Allan Saint-Maximin makes the list, ASM has attempted 145 dribbles and has been successful in 96 of them, a success rate of 66.2%%.
A surprise no doubt to many fans, that another Newcastle player has an almost equally successful rate this season when it comes to dribbling, step forward Jacob Murphy.
Supporting Newcastle United all his life, Murphy has been successful with 39 of 63 dribbles in the Premier League this season (in 17 PL starts and 9 sub appearances), a success ratio of 61.9%.
Jacob Murphy finds himself in a strange position, having only 36 days of his current NUFC contract remaining, despite ending the season as first choice at right wing-back.
As an attacking wing-back, Murphy really seems to really thrive, when the emphasis is on him driving forward and carrying the ball. These dribbling statistics backing that up, plus he scored that excellent goal at Burnley and showed his quality of crossing for Willock’s winner against Sheffield United last Wednesday.
With negative tactics and / or up against a better side, as a defensive wing-back I think then Murphy struggles.
I think Jacob Murphy is well worth another contract as he has got something, especially with so little other creativity / dribbling ability amongst the rest of these Newcastle United players.
