Many Sheffield United fans clearly think they are an authority on Newcastle United supporters, judging from the comments below.
Which is maybe a bit of a surprise, considering it is 11 years since Sheffield United fans visited St James Park.
The 5 April 2010 saw NUFC recover from a goal down to win 2-1 in the Championship against the Blades, thanks to Lovenkrands and Nolan goals on our way to promotion.
As for their last Premier League visit to SJP, that was 15 years ago and a happy occasion for Sheffield United fans, a 1-0 win on 4 November 2006.
I haven’t seen much said about the fact that the first NUFC match that was a casualty of the virus, was against Sheffield United. On the eve of the match that was due to be played Saturday 14 March 2020, all Premier League games were cancelled.
No visit for Sheffield United fans that weekend then for a match and nor indeed 99 days late, the Newcastle v Sheff Utd game was the first one for NUFC after the Government allowed matches to be played once again, though behind closed doors. The 21 June 2020 seeing a game heading towards a goalless draw, only for a red card to see the visitors go down to ten men, with goals from Saint-Maximin, Ritchie and Joelinton giving Newcastle all three points in a 3-0 win.
With such a scarcity of meeting up on Tyneside, you have to wonder exactly how many Sheffield United fans decide on such strong opinions regarding Newcastle fans…it wouldn’t be a surprise to find out that they regularly tune in to Talksport and other media that relentlessly misrepresents NUFC supporters.
With relegation already guaranteed, who knows when these Sheffield United fans will be able to view the deluded NUFC fanbase up close at St James Park in the future.
Sheffield United fans commenting via their S2 4SU message board:
‘Would love to beat Mr Potato head and the self entitled bar codes. They seem to think they really deserve to win something. Their suffering has been nowt compared to ours.’
‘A couple of brief trips to the Championship and back but yet they think the world is ended. I get that they want Ashley out as owner but I get the impression its a be careful what you wish for situation. Similar to Arsenal fans wanting Wenger out for so long and hoping things would change.’
‘Get the cabbages ready lads.’
‘Newcastle fan commenting…”We should look to humiliate Sheffield United “
Don’t they know our own players have already done that.
No help needed from anyone else.’
‘Yes, also seen…
“We will batter Sheffield United on Wednesday”
“We should really look too humiliate sheffield United”
One to hang up on the wall in the changing room.’
‘Why is it these clubs with protesting supporters always wait till their playing us to do their revolting bit.
What have we ever done to them?’
If Bruce is on the Beach someone might try to throw him back in the sea.’
‘After our our crushing 0-1 annihilation (let that be a lesson to them) of Everton I fear no one – bring on the Geordies’
‘So I’m getting my money on us to get a result v these, not just because we should be raring to go again after Sunday, but because if there’s Newcastle fans in, they’ll absolutely hammer Bruce for 90 minutes.’
‘I f.cking hate goerdies.’
‘Newcastle fans are the Wednesdayites of the North East. Deluded entitled n.bheads.’
‘I hope we do Newcastle United a big favour and put several past them winning easily to hasten the departure of one of the managers in the game I most dislike. 0-7 will do please.’
‘Very arrogant fans.’
‘That ownership saga is going to last as a gargantuan chip on their shoulder for a long long time. Brunt masterclass on route hopefully.’
‘In some ways the Keegan era hasn’t done them any favours. A few seasons qualifying for the champions league and they now think they’re Real Madrid.
Not dissimilar to the pigs really, couple of good seasons in the 90s, done nowt since but convinced they should’ve been invited to take part in the Super League.’
‘I don’t like Bruce’s methods but he’s unquestionably done his job up there.
Yet the fans focus on him more than their absolute a.se boil of an owner?
From Jarrow marchers to entitled consumerists.’
‘They love a good managerial sacking in Newcastle don’t they? No one is ever good enough for them. Arrogant tw.ts.’
