Manchester United and Chelsea were interested in signing Alex Sandro for a while now. The Juventus player has now reappeared as a potential signing for the Premier League giants with TuttoJuve saying that the Italian side are willing to sell their left-back if the expected bid is made.
The 31-year-old left-back started his career at a Brazilian youth club known as Atletico Paranaense. After 2 years of development, he was promoted to the first team after his performance showed promise. He appeared in 25 matches as a teenager and scored 1 goal.
Sandro joined another Brazilian club Santos FC, on a 2-year loan deal. He was given more opportunities here and went on to make more than 50 appearances. His performance was slowly catching the eyes of European clubs. And soon enough the Portuguese giants, FC Porto signed him for €9.6 million.
It was here that he started becoming one of the world’s best full-back. He was able to enjoy trophies in his first 2 seasons as Porto won the League twice and a domestic cup. He was not rushed in his debut season and was given only limited matches. However, for the remaining 3 years, he has hardly missed a match.
Alex Sandro made a respectable 137 appearances in 4 years before Juventus came calling in 2015. The Serie A champions made a bid of €26 million which was enough to convince Porto to let go of the Brazilian. He soon became an important part of that team which started with a quick debut.
The Brazilian continued his great form which granted him the left-back spot permanently from Patrice Evra. Since then there has been no slowing him down. He maintained his great form which helped Juventus win Serie A every year he played the Coppa Italia 4 times.
United and Chelsea monitoring Sandro for the next season
This season also, there has been no dip in the 30-year-old full-back’s performance. However, despite his contribution, Juventus have been dethroned from Serie A after 9 long years. Their early departure in the Champions League also summed up the worst season they are having.
The start of the season was also a disappointing one as they went on a series of draws. After that, they fought their way back to the top but the damage was too far-reaching for them to make a comeback. They are still at the risk of losing the Champions League spot next season.
Juventus are level on points with Atalanta and AC Milan at the 3 remaining spots. However, Napoli and Lazio are just behind with only 2 points separating them. Juventus’ will have a tougher job as they will be facing both the Milan clubs in the remaining 4 fixtures.
Given the current situation of Juventus, a big revamp can be expected, which means that many players will be removed from the squad to bring in the new ones. One such player that they might include in this list is Alex Sandro who has reached the 30 years mark.
If he is to leave, there are many suitors waiting to sign him. Manchester United, Chelsea, and PSG are said to be monitoring the situation. Manchester United who defeated AS Roma to reach the Europa League finals are stuffed with full-backs. So are Chelsea who reached the Champions League finals.
However, reports claim that Juventus have listed him for a fee of €25 million which they are willing to reduce to €20 million if clubs make initial contact. Although the Premier League sides won’t need him, a deal so good is tough to turn down. PSG looks like the more likely destination for Sandro.
