Arsenal’s 2020/21 struggles
Arsenal are in the midst of arguably their worst-ever Premier League season.
At the time of writing the Gunners are sat down in 10th place in the Premier League table, a full eight points behind 6th place.
And with just five games left to play, it looks very likely that Arsenal are once again set to miss out on a top-six finish this term.
The Gunners also need to earn 10 more points to simply match their 2019/20 points total, which itself was still pretty dire (56).
VAR against Arsenal?
But what is to blame for Arsenal’s poor 2020/21? Is it Mikel Arteta, the players or perhaps something else?
One factor Arsenal fans may point towards when discussing their current league standings is VAR and the decision to have gone against them.
Back in March, 101 detailed a thread off all the decisions to have gone against the north Londoners this season.
The calls against Arsenal did not stop there, though, with yet another contentious offside call going against them last week vs Everton.
Now, on Wednesday, the latest VAR statistics for the 2020/21 Premier League campaign have been revealed, with said stats showing just how unlucky Arsenal have been with the technology.
As revealed by ESPN’s Dale Johnson, Arsenal have had the fewest VAR decisions in their favour this season.
And though it is Liverpool have had the most against, when taking into account the decisions that went for and against teams, it is once again Mikel Arteta’s side who have the most net against:
VAR STATS (cont)
Most for: Brighton 9
Fewest for: Arsenal 2
Most against: Liverpool 12
Fewest against: Burnley 1
Most net for: Burnley, Chelsea, Everton 4
Most net against: Arsenal 7
Most involvement: Liverpool 19
