Hasenhuttl blames missed chances
Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has been placed under further pressure after failing to get a result at Tottenham Hotspur.
The Austrian coach has experienced an awful run of form by his Saints side who were eliminated from the FA Cup in the semi-finals after a defeat to Leicester City.
The former RB Leipzig boss blamed the loss in North London on a host of missed opportunities.
“We must analyse this game again, but we have to find a solution for our defending deep, because it is not working well,” said Hasenhuttl.
“It’s unbelievable how many chances we had today, and this is in the end with the result not really showing what the game was about.
“In the end it’s about who is more clinical and who is not so stupid and making such penalties as we do.
“It’s not a good time to speak about how pleased I am [with aspects of the performance] because at the moment I am only disappointed and that’s it.
“We have to stand up again and be fighting for it but it’s hard to take.”
Ings injury changed game
Danny Ings looks to be in danger of yet another injury after being taken off against Spurs.
He was taking a shot on goal when he went to ground clutching his hamstring/groin area.
With the Saints in a strong position before Ings went off, the substitutes which came on Hasenhuttl felt that they did not help the game in a surprising directed criticism of his players.
“Ingsy is a good player but we have to be able to get over the line without him,” said Hasenhuttl.
Who else? 🤔

“We still had the subs who could come on and make the difference, fresh subs – but I did not have the feeling that our subs helped us today.
“The way we lost the game today, I could not hurt more. The last 30 minutes, we did not have the game we wanted to.”
Ings’ injury is probably not going to cause too much concern as the Saints are 9 points clear of the drop with a game in hand over Fulham.
However, it may be a worry for England manager Gareth Southgate who has seen Harry Kane miss out for Spurs due to an ankle problem.
